Our Story
I'm Sharon, Founder of Clock House Candles and chief candle maker
I made my first candles ten years ago for my own wedding, they were very basic unscented soy wax candles which I poured into little glass ramekin jars that I had saved from those delicious deserts that you can buy from the supermarket.
The candles looked cute but I did not have a clue about the science behind candle making, different waxes, wick types, fragrances and candle safety, its a good job we made it through the wedding unscathed!
Ever since then I have been making candles on and off for myself and have done a lot of learning over the years. Candle making, or chandlery to give it its proper name, is indeed a science and there are new things to learn every day. I have refined my materials and my techniques over the years and after gifting a few candles to friends over recent years and receiving positive feedback decided to take the plunge and start a small business. This is not a full time job as I work as a Teaching Assistant in a local school which i love doing, its more of a hobby that I enjoy and want to share.
The inspiration behind the name Clock House Candles is the cottage that my Great Grandparents lived in, called Clock House. I have such fond memories of visiting them there as a child, of the many different scent memories, the cottage and its gardens smelled of baking, woodfires, oak, pipe tobacco, flowers and sugary peppermints, some of which have made their way into my candle range. Olifactory memory, or scent memory as its commonly called is so powerful, and I love that a scent can transport us back in time.
Quality and sustainability are really important to me; my candles and wax melts are all hand-poured in my Wiltshire cottage using a gorgeous blend of coconut and rapeseed wax, cotton wicks, high quality fragrance oils and gorgeous glass candle vessels.
My choice of vegan friendly raw materials ensures a clean burn free of nasty parabens and phthalates and my packaging is all plastic free, and is either recyclable or compostable.
I hope that you enjoy my products
